White was actually feeling nervous for once. She had just come out of Vermillion and headed upwards in search of Cerulean and found herself instead in one of the biggest cities she had ever seen. And unlike Castelia, which all lead back to the ocean, all the Unovan could see were buildings. Buildings for miles upon miles. Within minutes, White was staring intently at the map of the city with a frown upon her lips. She was well and truly lost in the enormous place, and found herself frowning quite heavily about it. She never got this lost. But everywhere she turned, there was another towering skyscraper, and stone. So much stone.
With a look of sheer nervousness, the young dex holder folded up her map and began to worry. She couldn't find a single land mark she recognised, and even the long straight roads were just leading her in circles. Looking as much of a tourist as she actually was, White took a few steps around, her gaze desperately searching for something to recgonise. She was from Unova, not Kanto. Worried she'd sound like a foreigner - forgetting that her fretting made her look like one - she dare not ask one of the men or women in business suits, walking in and out of the large office buildings.
Finally, her eyes landed on an enormous building in the center of the street. It towered over many of the other buildings, but it's glass windows and shiny exterior meant that she could recognise it as a point to return to. Walking over and standing before it, the desperate business woman had to smile to herself. Someday, she would own a building like that, where all would come to visit and ask to rent pokemon. She would be the number one rental sales rep in all of the pokeworld. Unfortunately, there was quite some time before that happened. She still had three more regions left to conquer. Searching for a sign that indicated what this enormous building was, White finally found the business plaque and her blue gaze widened. "Silph co. huh.. I didn't know they were in Kanto too." Not realising how large a corporation the company was, White decided to let it be, heading onwards towards another side street.
She frowned to herself as she looked either way and found herself feeling just as lost as she had been a few moments ago, but was happy when she saw the head of a younger girl. Far less frightened of a girl than she was the women in their fancy suits - she knew she'd have to get used to them sometime - she jogged up, practically pouncing on the girl. "Hi there! I don't suppose you know your way around Saffron City, do you?" She knew most children didn't like to be approached by strangers, but White always put up her most honest fronts with them. She didn't want them mistrusting her, and knew that she would never ever harm them.
"I'm White.. I'm from Unova and I'm completely lost." She chuckled to herself, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly, having no idea if the girl she'd pounced on would even know her way around. She might at least be able to point her in the direction of the way to the nearest route. Maybe. Hopefully. Who knew.

She'd left Pewter City as quickly as she could, once she'd gotten her strength back, and promptly clung to Lilly like glue. Today was the first time she'd gotten seperated from her friend since the events, and Sakura's mind was quickly panicking at the idea of being left alone. What if that man found her again, what if he wasn't happy with Ran? She had to get him back, she had to get her Pokemon back, no matter what it took. She could think that, but being alone again in a big city made her want to cower against the building and hide. Kari wriggled in her arms, twisting to place her paws against Sakura's still badly bruised cheek and cuddling under her chin while Sakura waited for Lilly to located her. After last time, she was not moving even an inch.
Sakura very nearly squealed with fright when someone called out to her, and she took a hurried step back while Kari hissed uneasily in her arms. Sakura's grip tightened, refusing to let go of her Pokemon this time, even while her green eyes stared up at the older girl with a mixture of curiousity and wariness that went beyond her years. There was something about her that seemed familliar, something that stopped her from bolting into the crowd of suits and briefcases. After a moment, her eyes widened and she barely managed a squeak in return to her question. White. White the hero of Unova. Sakura had always loved the stories of the heroes, but White had been one of her favourites since she'd taken down the evil team. She was strong and beautiful and... "Y-you-you're Wh-white... F-from U-unova, r-right?" She squeaked eventually, giving her a shy smile over the top of Kari's head.
Then she confirmed it, and Sakura's eyes widened even further. One of her heroes, asking her for directions. It didn't seem possible, but she was right there - and being stared at like she was the most wonderful person in the world - she was right infront of her... The Eevee in her arms wasn't as pleased, her ears lying back as she tried to determine if this girl was a danger to her trainer like the last one had been. "I... I... yes.. I do... A little.." She nodded after a moment, ignoring the fact her hands were stinging from clenching them so hard while keeping her arms loose enough around Kari to not hurt her. "My... my name... I'm Sakura... f-from Lavender T-town. Th-this is Kari.. my p-partner...Wh-where do y-you need to go?" It was nice, after the depression she'd sunk into the last few days, to have her moment of hero worship, gazing up at White with nothing short of adoration.
Another person, and Sakura would definitely have fled without a second glance. White was a hero though, she was brave and strong and good. "Y-you ju-just want my he-help r-right?" She asked uncertainly, clutching Kari closer to her chest in a protective gesture before she managed a shy smile at her, "You're my hero, White..." Apparently, White could not have chosen a better tour guide. She had just been so desperate to find someone who wasn't an angry-looking business person (she swore never to become so solemn herself, even when she was the worlds greatest entreprenour) and Sakura not only fit the bill perfectly - in fact, she was the complete opposite, but it seemed she wasn't about to run away in fear of stranger danger. White knew she was pushing her luck talking to someone so young, especially in sucha big city, but it was less terrifying than the thought of chasing after one of the mean, cruel adults who told her that she shouldn't be there if she couldn't find her way around. Okay, they probably wouldn't say that, but she was terrified of them none the less. If White had known that the poor girl had been attacked similarly to her own experience, she might not have called out. She probably would have resisted so that they could have talked quieter, but as it was, everything seemed to be turning out alright.
Bright blue eyes glanced down into emerald ones that spoke volumes. She couldn't believe the concern that aged those eyes, and as Sakura asked, White had to respond almost unconsciously. Of course the poor girl was wise beyond her years. That was simply the sort of people White met. The squeak however, alerted White that Sakura may not just be someone who thought of the young woman as a nobody. She might know of her tales against Team Plasma. The younger ones always seemed to know more than the older ones, she'd found. White smiled as Sakura looked simply amazed, blushing a little. She had never been looked at with quite so much admiration. Even Cheren's gaze didn't lighten every feeling in her heart the way Sakura's did.
The adorable Eevee in the younger girl's arms caught White's eye, and she was sure the little vulpine pokemon was uncertain of her. In an attempt to play nice - and hoping she wouldn't get bitten - she reached out her hand for Kari to sniff at. She would be careful indeed. "It's a pleasure to meet you Sakura. Lavender town is to the East of Kanto, right? It has a radio tower and the mourning tower, too?" She tried to remember her locations right, but sometimes she certainly got confused. Looking embarrassed, she bit her lip. "I just need to find the passes to the routes.. I can probably find my way from one of those, but I'm attempting to make my way to Cerulean, but all the buildings got me lost.." She blushed a little, and looked down at Sakura.
The girl still seemed concerned, and she let her own hair fall over her eyes. "Of course. I'm so lost.." She blushed, laughing nervously, before Sakura's second sentence stuck in her brain. White couldn't help it. A smile spread across her lips and she had to blink back tears. She was someone's hero? Not Black? Not Red or Gold? Not Ruby, Sapphire or Platinum? Her! She tried to contain her glee, but ended up giggling softly, looking at the ground. "I'm really your hero? Truly? I.. I'm not much of a hero though. I mean, I just helped." She was being humble, but still filled with a strange sense of innate happiness. She couldn't help it. This girl had lightened her whole year. [/style] |

The shy Pokemon's ears immediately went flat against her skull and her dark eyes shadowed with fear. True, no one who had ever offered their hand first had ever presented a threat to her Trainer. Not Lilly, not Vin... but the dark bruises covering her Trainer [though only the dark bruise over her temple was even visable to the eye now] made the Eevee nervous. Her ears twitched again, as did her nose and Sakura's arms tightened as she let out a low, nervous growl. A moment later, she seemed to pick up a scent that made her calm down, her bristling fur relaxing as she leaned towards White's fingers and sniffed shyly. After a moment, she licked White's fingertips lightly before shrinking back against Sakura's chest. "S-sorry.. I-I was going to warn you... She doesn't like strangers much, 'specially not after.. She just gets uneasy is all, she didn't bite did she?" Sakura asked, stepping closer and untangling one hand from Kari to take White's hand in her own.
She certainly hoped her friend hadn't bitten the Unovan trainer, that would be so naughty of her, and it would hurt someone. When White spoke again, she quickly dropped the older girl's hand and stepped back to her safe distance for White's personal space and nodded her head slightly at her questions about Lavender Town. Just thinking about the sweet serenity of the place made her heart ache for home - even with it's abundance of Ghost types. "Mhm. Lavender Town's really quiet, it's just thata'way." She smiled, pointing over her shoulder into the maze of buildings. Though the gate couldn't be seen from their position, Sakura knew Saffron a lot better than she knew most of the other cities. Vin had taken her to Saffron on several occassions to show her around - while she followed him around like a true gumpkin, with her eyes wide and mouth hanging open at everything.
"The mourning tower is scary." Sakura murmured, grinning slightly at the older girl, her natural ease with people surfacing with a sparkle to her eyes that faded after a moment. "There's lots of Ghosts in Lavender Town, but it's so quiet and peaceful... Ma says I was too loud for it." A sheepish grin this time, Sakura rubbing her neck with her free hand before wrapping it around Kari again. Every moment with White made her feel even more secure, safer than she had ever really felt before. With the exception of Vin, White was older and stronger than she was, she could protect anyone. Another delighted smile lit up her young face, and she looked around her eagerly to pinpoint the right path that would take them in the direction she wanted to go. Sakura would help her do anything she wanted, after all, White was her hero! Even heroes had to ask for help sometimes.
"Cerulean? That's the home of Misty, she's a water-type gym leader. She's really strong too, are you going to meet her? Are you going to battle? Can I watch? Pretty please? I want to learn more about training!" Sakura bounced slightly, eyes once again sparkling with excitement at the idea of seeing her very own Hero in her battle with one of the Gym Leaders of Kanto. Not that Misty would stand a chance against White, White was amazing and strong and beautiful and no one could ever, ever, ever beat her.
Just her help, that was all. She didn't want to do anything bad. The reassurance was obviously what Sakura needed, and her shoulders slumped in relief as she nodded shyly, her eyes dropping to stare at the ground as she scuffed her foot along the pavement. "Mhm. It used to be Blue, and Yellow. But then I saw you, and how you helped so many people and even real recently you saved the others from a rebel... you're so brave, and so strong..." She mumbled shyly, her voice dropping to a tiny whisper as she bent her head closer to Kari, "You'd never let your pokemon get taken." Not White. White was too brave, to perfect to ever get beaten. She brought our Pokemon's natural abilities and grace by understanding and believing in them. She knew Kari was not biting for any reason other than nervousness, and the small lick that came after in apology and offering of friendship. The dex holder smiled warmly and gave her the softest, most hestitant ruffle of her headfur. The eevee had been traumatised by something, and th ebest thing for trauma was patience and persistence. "Not hard enough to hurt, don't worry. I'm sorry if I scared you, sweetie. I didn't mean to make you nervous. I have- I had a pokemon that was like you too. Her name was Gogochan, she was really sweet and very nervous too, if a bit of a drama queen. You'd have liked her."
Managing to contain any tears that might have sprung up into her eyes, White turned to Sakura with warmth. It was laughter that sprung from her insides instead as Sakura examined her hand. White shook her head as she was released once more. She shook her head again. "I'm fine, I promise. She's very protective of you, she must love you a lot. She might even evolve into an Espeon or Umbreon soon, with how much she loves you.. Someday I'd like to see it. Quiet is interesting too, it's lovely. It means the people have more time to exist and develop than in a city where your personality is written by the buildings." She looked in the direction Sakura pointed, only seeing another line of buildings. The cityscape hid the tiny town in the distance perfectly. Who made a square city? honestly? It was so much easier to give directions when you didn't come across a corner everywhere you went.
White watched Sakura's grin and it only made her own grow. She could see a lot of herself in this young girl, and had to continually not hug-attack her with some famous White hugs. She didn't remember the last time she'd been drawn to someone so much, and Sakura was the perfect little-sister type that you just wanted to snuggle and protect until the end of time. Especially when she said such cute things like she just had. "You might not have been too loud for the town, but you might have needed the adventure to let all our loud come out to play!" White responded brightly, smiling down at Kari and the way they were cuddling. It was just so adorable! "And if you hadn't left, we might have never met, and that's certainly reason enough for me to be glad that your mamma told you to adventure! But surely you're not on your own, a cute girl like you has to have a boyfriend or girlfriend." She winked cheekily.
White was astounded at Sakura's eagerness, and she blushed furiously - it was so strange to have someone look up to her, and want to watch her battle. Sure, White had been interested in meeting up with certain trainers like Misty and eventually taking the gym challenge, but she hadn't even collected all eight badges from Unova yet, let alone the ones from Kanto. Maybe she should though, just for the sake of the young girl. She was so eager, White hated to disappoint. "Maybe! I guess it depends on whether or not Misty is off on an adventure of her own. The last time I heard, she was in Viridian City with Red, catching up with him. But she might be back yet!" She grinned, nodding furiously.
White had been about to gush when she noticed the change in Sakura, and she had to listen hard for those last words of hers to pierce through the air. Instantly, the dex holder froze. Those abhorrent people had attacked her too! They had taken pokemon from a child! It was one thing to attack dex holders - when you took on the role you became a public figure and had to expect the occassional scary occurance, but a child! White instantly dropped herself to Sakura's height and put a hand on either of the younger girl's shoulders. "You're wrong." White flushed, "That pokemon I mentioned before, Gogochan, and my other, Mizuchan. A rebel forces member attacked me, held me tightly and threatened to kill my pokemon if I didn't give them to her. These.. these people who attack and steal pokemon.. it's not about letting them take them. It's about being better people than they are. I.. two of my precious pokemon were taken from me because of them. If they took your fault, Sakura-chan, it was anything but your fault. And I vow that I'll get them back for you."
White stood back up, trying to smile but looking like she just wanted to hug Sakura, scared to frighten the girl if she'd had as terrifying an ordeal as what White had when the rebels had attacked her. Oh, these people made her sick to her stomach. [/style] |

A part of her longed to scold Kari for the small red mark on White's hand, but at the same time, Sakura shrank from taking that protection away. Kari needed to feel she could protect her trainer. Perhaps herself too. As White's hand ruffled against her fur; however, the Eevee seemed to cheer slightly, relieved that she wasn't getting in trouble for her nervousness and even managing to brighten at White's laugh. Sakura shook her head slightly, brown pig-tails bouncing as she smiled softly, "I like all Pokemon. Nii-chan says Kari and I suit, 'cause we're both brave enough to be stupid, or was it stupid enough to be brave?" The pair shared a glance before Sakura shrugged slightly and blushed.
"I have a fire stone, onii-chan says I'll know when to use it. Right now, I love her for her." The mention of her home brought another bright smile to Sakura's features, and the girl nodded eagerly as she thought of her home with it's different buildings. The people who reflected their home as much as any person could, Lavender Town had personality, that was all that mattered. "That's true! Sometimes it really seems like the houses can tell a story of their own! I wish I could speak house..." Suddenly realising what she'd just said, Sakura's cheeks flamed a dark pink of embarrassment. Why did she have to go and say such childish things infront of White? Her hero! Of all the people to hear her say something like that, White was certainly the last one on her list. She probably thought Sakura was nothing but a silly little girl now, which... Really in comparison, she was.
Hearing White say that being loud wasn't a bad thing only encouraged the brightness, and it was true, she guessed. Since leaving the quiet, little town, Sakura had found her desire for noise greatly lessened. There were days when she eagerly played with Lilly-chan, but others when she was content to sit and braid her friend's hair, as long as she was near by. "Adventuring is fun! I've learnt lots, and I'm going to be a great trainer one day! Eh? Never meet you? I never thought I would..." And with that, her starry-eyed expression was back. Right infront of her, close enough to touch, was her hero. Her absolute hero. B-boyfriend? Sakura's emerald eyes widened rather comically as her cheeks darkened even further to a shade of red. "I... I.. n-no.. I .. Um.. no boyfriend... Um.. I have Lilly-chan.." She mumbled, glancing over her shoulder as though expecting the older girl to come bounding up any minute. Perfect, friendly, beautiful Lilly-chan.
"Ah! Really?" Obviously excited, Sakura bounced on the balls of her feet at the idea of watching a real hero in battle. "I've always wanted to see a real battle, with proper trainers! Like you or Green or Red or Blue oror, mostly you... But real heroes, do you really think she'll be back?" Sakura certainly hoped so, she would be highly disappointed if Misty wasn't there for White to visit, though it would mean she would have to find Lilly-chan before she followed White around.
Startled by White suddenly being on her level, Sakura unintentionally backed up a step until her hands rested against her shoulders. White had been attacked too? Knowing that... It wasn't much easier to bear but the sense of guilt lifted. She hadn't been strong enough, but White knew what it was like. Biting her lip to hold back tears, Sakura freed one arm from Kari to throw it around White's neck, clinging to the older girl and hiding her face against her neck. "He hurt me. H-he wanted to b-battle. B-but Ran was s-still so little.. I-it wasn't fair... Weezing against Nidoran i-isn't fair... He kicked me, an-and hit me... I couldn't hold on to R-ran's pokeball... I-if onii-chan hadn't come.. I couldn't... I t-tried..." Held tight between White and Sakura, Kari mewed quietly, stretching up to place her paws against White's chest as Sakura clung to her.

Sure, she'd felt a little bit of pain at the bite but again, with everything around at that time, people needed to be protected - by their pokemon or by themselves. Either way, the rangers were doing a good job, but everyone needed to find their own ways for protection too. White shook her head, sucking on the hurt for a second and nodding at the Eevee. "Nothing to be apologising for, she's protective, and you can't blame her for that." White knew she certainly didn't. She'd like a pokemon to be so protective of her. She knew if she kept Serchan out all the time she'd be well and truly protected, but she also wondered quite a bit as to whether or not the towering serpent might terrify passerbys.
"I think you two are suited too, although I don't think there's any stupidity in why. You match, her fur and your hair, and you both are adorable." White nodded and laughed softly, letting her hand drop back to her side and watching the pair. It was nice to see a trainer and pokemon so in tune. Kari actually reminded her of Sakura instantly. The had the same movement patterns, if one was quite a bit smaller and cuddle-size. Then again, Sakura was pretty cuddle-able herself.
White had to smile again at the next comment, nodding in agreement. It was never right to evolve a Pokemon before they were ready, and a fire stone for Eevee was a big change, but at the same time, it was a very good choice to have. "I think Flareon are one of my favourite, they're very beautiful pokemon. But it's nice to enjoy her while she's totally perfect for cuddling too, don't you think?" She was glad to see Sakura smiling again. She had been worried Kari's bite might have put a damper on her spirits, and that was something White thought no one needed.
The rebels dampened enough.
White laughed at the endearing blush on Sakura's cheeks, and nodded somewhat solemnly at the comment. Oh yes, it would be good to speak house. The walls had ears and they would tell some great stories. "I agree," she reassured softly, nodding seriously again once so as not to embarrass the young girl further, "Houses would tell us some really interesting things if we could actually speak to them."
The young pokedex holder remembered when she was beginning her journey. It was not at all the same as Sakura's, and she'd fallen into the pokedex holder category simply because she had become friends with Black. Perhaps it was chance, but fate had brought them together at that point, and she wasn't going to deny that her own journey had taught her a lot too, it was just learning different things like business and how to be strong in the face of danger.
And you know, not to jump out of Ferris Wheels.
"Lilly-chan? She sounds really cute, I bet she's just as cute as you, to be someone you care about." She smiled affectionately, and nodded once. She was sure a lot of people expected her to be like a celebrity but really, White would rather talk to people and be a hero just because she was like everyone else. "Well you are meeting me, and we're talking. And you're going to be my cheer squad, right?"
It might have been a little vain to want someone to cheer for her while she competed in the gym challenge, but White couldn't help herself. She wanted to have someone nearby to help her and congratulate her. Black was busy with his own Unovan badges, he didn't want to face off with White. She nodded once at Sakura's question. "She's got to be back so I can battle her, doesn't she!"
Stories like Sakura's broke White's heart. She was sad as she spoke, and apologetically loosened her grip so that Kari could breathe properly. "He is a bad person, Sakura-chan," her words were quiet, pointed. "Hopefully your big brother and I can work something out to get your pokemon back, I'd like to do that if I can." She let her stay close, nodding affectionately and rubbing the younger girl's back. There was nothing weak about an eleven year old facing a rebel. Rebels shouldn't attack children. "I know how you feel, my pokemon.. I'll do what I can to help you too, Kura, I never want anyone to hurt you again." [/style] |

I shouldn't encourage biting in any form. It's not a good trait..." Uncertainly, Sakura watched her Eevee with her hero, watching for any more signs of aggression from the little fox-like Pokemon. Kari had never been overly friendly with strangers, but she'd never bristled as she had more recently. Since the attack really, and while Sakura didn't really understand the fact that she was simply worried for her trainer, she welcomed the protection. Everything had made her so frightened lately that she didn't even want to think of returning Kari to her Pokeball. Maybe one day, when she was bigger and braver, when she was just like White. Then maybe she'd be okay to be alone again.
It was obvious that Sakura had never thought about it in the way White put it, for her green eyes flickered down towards the soft brown fur of her Eevee at the same time that Kari's liquid brown eyes met hers. For a long moment, the pair of them watched each other, until Sakura blinked and looked back up at White with a dark blush straining her cheeks. "Adorable? Oh no... Kari maybe, but I'm really, really not. Only some little girls are cute. I'm too plain." She giggled happily, pleased despite her denial. She'd never really been called cute before, only by her mother and Lily on the odd occassion. To hear her hero say such things about her... it brought a warm feeling to her chest, like she could smile forever and never, ever stop.
As Sakura glanced down at her Eevee again, trying to imagine her as a big, brave Flareon, her head tilted slightly and Kari, watching White, copied the action. Being together as long as they had, Kari knew her trainer better than anyone else, she knew when she was scared and trying to hide it, knew when she was happy, and above all, knew when she needed to be protected. If only Sakura had been walking with her when all the bad things had happened, that awful man wouldn't have been able to touch her. Not her Sakura. "I guess that's true... I like her like this for now. I think she'll tell me when she's ready to evolve." She smiled happily, bending to press another kiss to her Pokemon's head and laughing when she purred.
"Really? You do?" As a child, Sakura was more than accustomed to being told she needed to think before she spoke - or acted as the case generally was - but here was an adult agreeing with her statement about talking houses. Not just an adult, but White. The blush slowly faded from her cheeks, and the star-struck smile returned to her features. "They could tell you amazing things. Imagine if you could talk to the walls at the league! Oror the gyms! They could tell you exactly how to beat the leaders!" Most trainers could use said advantage on some of the more difficult leaders, Sakura included.
"Lily is! She's... she's..." Now how to describe her bestest friend in the whole world required some thought and Sakura's expression shifted into a thoughtful frown as she concentrated. There were so many words to describe the wonderful older girl, but there was no one word to completely sum her up. "She.. is wonderful! And amazing and special and smart and sweet and cuddly andand..." Helplessly, she shrugged. Unable to describe her best friend to another person. "You'd have to meet her, I can't explain." She giggled happily, hugging Kari against her chest and then relaxing again.
"Yes! Yesyesyes!" She all but chirped the words, bouncing on her feet eagerly at the idea of watching White battle the other gym leaders. Given a chance, Sakura would have followed White to the ends of the earth, simply to hear to stories and bask in her presence. As nice as it would be though, she had to get her own badges so she could prove to her brother that she could look after herself, despite the attack, despite everything else. "I'll cheer the loudest!"
It was nice, Sakura reflected, to be held by an older person. Lily gave amazing cuddles, but she was still within an age where Sakura felt on even footing with her. White, and her older brother; however, gave that sense of protection that no one else could give. As much as she wanted to stay like that with her, to stick to her side like glue, she knew she couldn't. Eventually, she'd have to grow up and get a little stronger and she couldn't do that if she didn't stand on her own. Pulling away slightly, Sakura wiped hurriedly at her eyes to check there were no tears before smiling. "I'm going to get him back, I'll be a strong trainer and I'll get him back... And help everyone just like you did."
