If you don’t come down this instant, I’m going to get you myself.”
Alice blinked several times as she heard herself speak. Maturity seeped through her tone, reminding her of the way her parents spoke to her when she was a little girl clueless on avoiding trouble. The fact that both of her hands were set along her narrow waist only heightened the appearance of a mother speaking to her child.
She took a deep breath and counted to five, frustration building in her system as her green eyes watched the little pichu smirking back at her from atop the tree branch. Ooh, the little runt was going to get it. Playtime had been over some time ago, and now Alice was full gear in work-mode. She couldn’t afford to waste time by lazing around; a contest was set to start in a couple hours and she was hell-bent on showing up early. Before the actual competition began, she wanted to take some time to scope out the potential competitors, perhaps even interview a few of them if they were willing. And though it was a long shot, a part of her was hoping that some of her near dear favorites would be making an appearance.
Yet all of that was being put on hold because of the tiny electric mouse!
Stomping one foot on the ground, she made an obvious expression of annoyance. “Come ooon! It’s time to get back to work! I’m giving you three more seconds.” Her voice lowered in an attempt to sound threatening, “Three… two… one…!” Instead of scrambling down from the tree like she hoped, Alto merely toddled back towards the center of the tree, his small form slumping against the trunk. Mockingly, his round eyes closed for sleep. Maybe, just maybe she could let him off the hook for being so tired – if only there wasn’t the trace of a smirk still present on his lips.
She reached towards her belt for his pokeball. “You little – ” No. She would not take the easy way out and simply return him. That would teach him nothing. And if she tried to climb the tree, that wouldn’t do much either. He’d just run away from her; keep making fun of her until he got bored. The only other way she could teach him a lesson would be to give in to him. Or at least, make him think that way.
She crossed her arms and shrugged. “Fine. Have it your way. You can sleep here, by yourself, while the rest of us head to the contest hall. Have fun!”
With those last words, she skipped away from him without even turning to look back. Whether he was following or not, she would find out soon enough. Of course, she would never actually leave the poor baby by himself – but once she found a suitable tree or bush, she would duck for cover and wait for him to come trailing after her.
Her eyes scanned for a hideout as she skipped, not bothering to glance down at the ground. Which, if she had been looking, even for a second, she would have seen the small pit just a few feet away and…
Yeah. Wouldn’t have almost fallen into it or anything.
She let out a high-pitched yelp as she felt the ground sink from beneath her feet, causing her to trip rather awkwardly over the hole and land on its edge with her stomach. Scrambling quickly with her hands, she grabbed a fistful of grass to keep her somewhat above the edge; most of her body was already being swallowed into it. As seconds passed, she could feel the blades snapping in half, cutting her looser and farther into the hole.
She wasn’t worried about the fall or where it would take her though – rather, her thoughts snapped to the little stubborn pichu of hers. A heart-wrenching feeling built in her gut as she thought worriedly of him. What if he’s out there and looking for me right now? What if he won’t be able to find me? What if he thinks I really left him…?
Her lips trembled as the image of her poor, lost pokemon came to mind.
She could feel herself being pulled in as the very last few blades of grass broke under her fingers. It was coming. She shut her eyes tightly in anticipation.
And then her hands were empty.

finally found myself; fighting for a chance I know now this is who I really am. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,460,true][atrb=style, background: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/a2vuas.png); padding: 5px; text-align: justify; color: #202020; text-transform: lowercase;] "Thanks." Noru said as he took the money Nurse Joy handed him and placed it in his pocket. He had just gotten finished playing some piano for the people in the center, and now was about 100 bucks richer. It was nice traveling to different Pokemon Centers and finding which ones like to hear classical piano music. Sinnoh seemed a lot more into it than Johto or any other regions he'd been to. He was hoping leaving Johto would spark some musical inspiration for him. He had really wanted to travel to other regions, but was so lazy that he never actually had the drive to get off his ass and actually do it. His friend's in Johto practically pushed him out the door and onto the boat, so Noru did what he did best. Played the piano.
He turned and headed out the door with a wave. His ruffled hair was obviously not even somewhat combed and he was in his normal black tshirt and baggy jeans. He really never put much effort into his looks, but he obviously could be dead sexy if he really tried. Girls already seemed to throw themselves at him to the point where he really didn't care anymore. He gave a heavy sigh as he got onto the road and headed towards the next town. He didn't really know why he was in this region, but he was here and needed to get some work done for once. He wasn't even really sure what city he was heading to next, but this was the direction he was headed and he would find out when he got to the other side of the road. That was the way his personality was, which in one way was an interesting side of him but was an incredibly irresponsible way to live.
He pushed his hands in his pockets and continued down the walkway in his normal cool motion and it was about this time that he walked by the young girl who was clinging to the side of the ledge. He looked over and saw the young brunette just hanging there. "What the hell..." He bent down, keeping his eyes locked on her. "You could hurt your arms holding on to the ledge like that you know..." Even though he said that and sounded like a smart ass, he was watching her and making sure that he would catch her if she accidentally let go. There was no way that he was just going to walk away when a girl was hanging off of a ledge. It was about that time that it happened.
The girl let go.
It complete slow motion the young white haired boy reached out and grabbed her wrist. There was no way that he was going to let go of this young girl, even though he really didn't know who she was, he couldn't live with himself if he just watched this girl die. She was pretty cute though, he wouldn't lie. "Jeez, you better be happy that I walked by." With a struggled grunt, Naru began to pull her up. He was having trouble, but after a good few minutes, and some extreme pain in his arm, he was able to pull her over the edge and save her life. He breathed hard as he tried to catch his breath. She was a lot heavier than she looked, most girls were, but he was tired from having to pull her and probably wasn't going to be able to play anything for a day or two. He could already tell he pulled something.
"Well...are you okay?" |

It was only a few seconds before she let go that she heard the voice. For a moment, she felt relief. Someone was there; someone would be able to pull her to safety and she’d be able to reunite with her pokemon. However, just as the boy spoke again, that contented feeling knowing that she’d be saved flew right past her head and was replaced with something hovering above the lines of annoyance and anger. It took all of her willpower not to yell at him right then and there – as if she could, anyway, because her breath caught in her throat once there was nothing left to hold onto.
Though instead of falling, she felt a hand wrap firmly around her wrist.
She looked up. Her green eyes widened in surprise as she caught the struggled look on the stranger’s face. He had caught her, and stupidly all she could do was stare at his face – not because she found him particularly good-looking (as that was the last thing on her mind), but because she couldn’t help but think that somehow, he seemed vaguely familiar to her. She knew this boy… she was sure she recognized him from somewhere, but where? Even the sound of his voice, deep and rich with undertones of arrogance, gave a familiar warm feeling in her stomach. Yet all of her concentration to come to terms with any sort of recognition there might have been soon vanished once he spoke again. She blinked at his words, struggling to understand them. Really now? She scoffed softly. Had he just said what she thought he said? Ooh, boy. The look on her face quickly fixed itself into that of anger.
If there was anything that picked on Alice’s nerves, it was people like him with that haughty attitude that made her want to just… damn, she would totally smack him across the face if he wasn’t dangling her above god knows how many feet. There were so many things she could say to him, so many sharp, poisonous words that she could spit out in a heartbeat – but she wouldn’t let herself. Even if the guy seemed like a jerk with his crappy attitude, he had still saved her ass and the least she could do was bite back her tongue. Well, maybe until he could pull her up a safe distance, thus totally erasing the possibility of him wanting to let her go – once she managed to throw out at him every insult in the book there existed, of course.
A few moments later, he had finally lifted her over the edge, and without much of a struggle Alice was standing on both feet and looking completely fine as if nothing had ever happened. Much unlike her, though, the strange boy seemed exhausted from his actions and perhaps even a little bit… hurt? She froze. I-I can’t be that heavy, can I? She thought worriedly, a small wave of panic rushing through her head as she looked down at herself. Soon enough, those trivial thoughts vanished once she remembered her intention of letting him taste the fury built up inside of her. Only, as she listened to the sound of his heavy breathing and watched the rise and fall of his shoulders, the murderous look on her face softened into that of… maybe it was concern.
She opened her mouth to speak. Are you okay? she wanted to ask, but he had already beaten her to it. “Yeah… I’m fine… just tripped that's all…” she mumbled and looked away, holding onto her other arm sheepishly. Just a second ago she had been pissed at him, but now she was feeling bad – he had gotten hurt because of her. She forced herself to turn back to him, but her eyes quickly trailed down to focus on her shoes. “Are um… are you okay?”
Then she remembered her pokemon.
“Ah – Alto!” she called out suddenly, looking wildly around the area for signs of her little pichu. “Oh man! I have to find him, I ran away from him and he’s probably really scared and looking for me now, I have to find him, I – ”
Maybe it was from the stress of the situation, but without really knowing why, she felt tears spring to her eyes. Oh god, she must have looked like an idiot to this guy, whoever he was. She didn’t want to look at him, especially if he was seeing her like this. Turning her back to him, she began wiping furiously at her eyes, and then paused for a moment to catch her breath. “U-um, and thanks for saving me, sir.” She was trying, with difficulty, to control the trembling in her voice, though it wasn’t working out too well. “I’m really grateful. Th-though um, I… I’d better go now…"

finally found myself; fighting for a chance I know now this is who I really am. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,460,true][atrb=style, background: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/a2vuas.png); padding: 5px; text-align: justify; color: #202020; text-transform: lowercase;] He took a deep breath before he pushed himself up and looked down at her. He hit his right shoulder a couple times with his left hand and smiled in a cool manner. "Yeah, I'm fine. I have a bad shoulder and it just tends to go out on me after I strain it." It took him a few seconds before he took a second look at her. A good look. She seemed so familiar to him. But why? Did he know this girl? That was impossible. He hadn't been to this region since he was younger. He had been to this region before, a long time ago with his mom a couple months before she had died.
There had been a young girl he had gotten close to the last time he was here. Her name was Alice, and in the few short weeks that he had been here, they became very close playmates. He watched as she seemed to panic, not without thanking him though. "No problem, next time you "trip" though, make sure it's not over a cliff." He gave her a cocky smile as he then watched her turn around and begin to walk off. It was about that time that it hit him. She looked just like that young girl that he had known back them.
"Alice...?" He didn't even mean to say it out loud, but he did. He had never told anyone about his encounter with Alice, even his mom didn't know who he was playing with back at that time. He kind of wished that he had told her though, maybe if he had told her, they would have stayed in Sinnoh? He had no friends for a long time because he was quiet and seemed stuck up to the people that surrounded him. When he turned 10 and started his journey, he had pushed himself to completely change his personality. He was now a egotistical young man who just loved to make people react. This side of himself had always been there, he was honestly just scared to let it out to show the world.
It was strange that she would be the first person that he met when he returned to this region. Sinnoh was huge, of all the people he would meet. "My name is Minoru, maybe you remember me? It was a long time ago, but we had a lot of fun back then." He chuckled as he started to walk up towards her. He had just met her and he was already interested in who she was and where she was going. There was no way that he was going to let her get away from him this time. She had made a lasting impression on him back when he was here last, more than she would ever realize. |

At least he was fine, that was all that mattered. Even though she felt bad that he had had to go through all of that trouble because of her, she figured she would make it up to the stranger by paying him back somehow. She’d think of something. Then he had opened his mouth again with another catty comment. Instead of replying, though, she kept silent, her lips twitching into a forced smile as she watched his expression. If that irritating looking smile plastered on his face wasn’t wiped away soon enough, perhaps she would even challenge him on his suggestion.
Of course, that was all just silly imagination – and it was at that time that she remembered her baby pokemon was somewhere waiting for her. After her moment of panic and breaking down, she had turned away from him and had begun walking off; back towards the direction she had come from where Alto her pichu was. Alto was stubborn, but she knew her pokemon well enough and was sure he had come down from his spot, probably toddling around looking to find her. She could only hope that she’d run into him along the way. She had only taken a few steps forward when she heard the boy’s voice again. Though she was half-expecting another smart aleck remark, what had actually come out of his mouth had nearly made her heart stop. It was her name. He had said her name.
Alice.
And she was positive she had never introduced herself, either.
Ashy pigtailed tresses whipped across her face as she spun around to face him, her lips slightly parted as her mind struggled for some recollection. There it was again, that familiar warm feeling in her chest – and then as she searched his face, something struck her. She had known him from when she was a little girl; they had once played together, here in the city that was her hometown. Growing up, they’d been good childhood friends – perhaps even best friends, at least on her part. And though it was only seldom that she saw him, the very few times she did, her little child-like self treasured every moment of his company.
Now, though, things were different. Her fists clenched and shook as he spoke to reintroduce himself. Right. Minoru. Of course she remembered him. He had once been the center of her childhood, after all – yet all of that changed because of him. She could probably never forgive him for what he'd done, and even if he had good reason, it still didn’t explain why he had never bothered to follow up and contact her.
She glared at him furiously as he began walking towards her, her tone cold. “I remember. Why are you here?”
It was oooone Arceus-damned hell of a way to greet someone, that was for sure.

finally found myself; fighting for a chance I know now this is who I really am. Is that really the first thing that she says to him after all this time they've spent apart? They were good friends and that's how she greets him after all this time? There wasn't any way that he could have already done something to piss her off. He just saved her life and then she was trying to run off, what could he have possibly done in the short amount of time. Even if he did do something in that time, wouldn't he get some kind of credit for just saving her from falling off a cliff? Was she really already mad at him for something? "Is that really all you have to say to me? We were inseparable and that's really what you want to say to me?"
It had been forever since he had seen her, and she had grown up pretty well besides her flat chest. He had really missed her though. He had tried to get in contact with her several times, but for whatever reason...whenever he picked up the phone, he just couldn't speak. He had called her a couple of times and just listened to her answer, giving no reply. Why wasn't he able to talk to her? He was always so good at talking to people, especially girls. But none of the girls from his past could have prepared him to talk to her, and so out of the blue.
"Forget it, you were looking for a Pokemon weren't you? I'll help you find him." Minoru closed his eyes and walked past her in the direction that she had headed before he had stopped her. He was determined to make up for whatever it was that he had done that had already made her so upset with him. He continued to walk with a determined look on his face. He wasn't even really sure what Pokemon he was looking for. He made a weird face as he walked, he really should have asked before he walked off away from her. It was about that time that he noticed a little Pichu looking lost. That has to be him!
Minoru strolled over to the little Pokemon and picked him up and ran back. "This who you're looking for?" Minoru asked with a wink. Maybe now she won't be so sour towards him. He was happy to see her and it was obvious. Why wasn't she happy to see him? |

It took everything in Alice's power not to scream right then and there as Minoru spoke. True, she knew her greeting was rather cold and abrupt considering this was their first reunion in a long time, but she had always been stubborn and she was not about to go back on her feelings.
The two of them, inseparable? Sure, once upon a time ago. That was all before he had up and left her behind and then never said a damn word.
She took a deep breath in. Even though she really had no idea what she was going to say to him, she looked straight into his crimson eyes and opened her mouth to speak – but he had beat her to the punch. Her eyes widened at his proclamation. “You don’t even know what he…” But then he had walked past her, and with a sigh she had no choice but to let him go. “Idiot,” she muttered under her breath, watching him with her hands on her hips. There was no way he’d be able to know which pokemon, among the many lounging peacefully around the city, was hers. She trailed after him, unclipping Alto’s pokeball from her belt, before she saw the white-haired boy running back with her pichu in his arms.
He found him?
She ran up to meet him and caught the wink, but turned away to look at her little baby. Though looking slightly dazed, he was unharmed, much to Alice's relief. Alto jumped out of the boy’s arms and into his trainer’s, being welcomed by a big snuggle. “I didn’t mean to leave you behind like that. I’m sorry,” she murmured, resting her cheek on the top of his head. “But next time, listen to what’s asked of you, okay?” With that, she looked up at Minoru, still cuddling her pichu close to her chest, and gave him a small smile in thanks, blushing slightly because her pride had gotten the best of her.
With Alto’s pokeball in hand, she returned him into the comfort of his pokeball so that he could chill after everything that had just happened. Or, more thankfully, everything that didn't. If something were to have happened to him – something that could have had him taken away from her – she’d probably… she couldn't even bear to think. But he’s okay, she thought with relief, staring at all four of the pokeballs clipped to her belt. They’re all okay. They're all safe.
She heaved a small sigh before looking up at him again, emerald meeting ruby. She’d forgotten how much she admired his eyes… Her heart nearly skipped a beat.
“…Thanks.”
She wanted to stay pissed at him, she really did, but he had already saved her twice in less than a span of half an hour, even if she had never asked him to do the saving. So, despite the fact that he was a jerk, she'd show him some acknowledgement.
However, she would do it in a different way.
For a good moment she gave him a hard look, taking particular notice of how much his face had changed, which probably attributed to him losing most of his baby fat. Probably thinks he’s so good-looking, eh? She snarled in her head, recalling the cocky attitude he had displayed earlier. She grit her teeth together. Then she executed her plan.
In one swift move, Alice had grabbed both of his shoulders and pinned him onto the ground so that her arms were on either side of his head with her legs in the same position. They were close enough that both of their foreheads were touching. But she didn’t move.
To come this far was a feat – she wasn't about to stop now. It was answers that she wanted, and she was determined to get them out of him.
Her fingers pressed into the ground, curling slightly and entwining with the long strands of grass as she looked into his eyes, obvious hurt displayed in her own. “Why? Why didn’t you write me?” Her voice was louder this time, growing more in volume the more she went on, “Why didn’t you call? I had no idea where you were… but you knew where I was. You knew."
Every question held an answer that she was afraid she might hear. But nothing scared her the most for the one that might follow,
"Didn't you care?"
