A long time ago, Cheren noticed that Black and the concept of being on time did not get along. Somehow, whenever the two childhood friends would arrange a time for a meeting place, Cheren would be early and more often than not, Black would be late. There was always some kind of distraction to come in the way, whether it was Black having to run some kind of errand for White or stopping somewhere to shout his dreams of conquering the Pokemon League for all to hear. What Black needed, Cheren sighed, was more focus. Since they were kids, it was something he’d been trying to beat into him.
Today's meeting was a big one. This particular meeting was even considered necessary because, number one, without directly saying it both of them were feeling quite lonely and in need of the other, and two, a battle was in order - or, as his friend would say, now was the time someone was going to get their ass kicked. And it was not going to be Cheren. The battle was going to be a test of their skills, a test to see who was stronger, because both of them knew that they needed to be prepared for what was to come. He could feel the anticipation of the match that was going to commence, if Black ever showed. Though, Cheren really wouldn’t be surprised if his friend was torchic-ening out now; after all, he had bragged over Xtransceiver about how strong he and his team had grown. They were not about to lose - he had made that point clear. This time he would show him. It was a habitual thing, since they were kids, for one to be striving to beat or outmatch the other.
No matter how far they'd come, that would never change.
That being one thing, but there was no denying that the number of things that had changed far outweighed the other.
...
Damn, being teenagers surely had its negatives. All of the pent-up frustration was going to be eventually put out there in the ugly and duked out in no other a great place than their hometown. Unfortunately, Professor Juniper was out. And Bianca was out too, so no special reunion between the three was going to be in order, much to their disappointment. Or maybe it was a good thing. But the main focus, as of the moment, was the battle.
He hadn't trained or battled with Black for a while, so he had no idea what to expect of his opponent. What new strategies had he come up with? Or hadn't come up with. Black was always a mystery, he could never figure out what to expect of him in a battle. Which was why Cheren blamed sheer luck for the last win he had claimed (not that he was being a sore loser, because it was luck).
However, it was a different day.
Squinting at an approaching figure en route towards Nuvema, a smirk crossed the young man's lips when he recognized wild brunet hair covered by that signature hat. Dat hat, o goodness
Late.
"So you finally decided to show, Black?" Cheren called out teasingly, crossing his arms in a haughty manner. "I was beginning to think your head would be so full of it by now that you'd have trouble remembering where you lived."
notes: haha idk :3 have fun with it~

finally found myself; fighting for a chance I know now this is who I really am. [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width,460,true][atrb=style, background: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/a2vuas.png); padding: 5px; text-align: justify; color: #202020; text-transform: lowercase;] He was late. Again. Oh well, surely Cheren would realize that he was gonna be late and wouldn't get there early like he normally did. Cheren was always so serious and up-tight about even stupid things like being late. It's not like he was actually expected to be there at a certain time. And he had a good reason for being late. He had just returned to his hometown, of course he had to shout out what he had been doing for the past few months that he had been gone, and of course remind the people in the town what he was planning on doing in the future. Those League guys wouldn't know what hit them. Cheren would understand right?
He could see the black haired boy off into the distance as soon as he came up on their meeting spot. Of course he was there. And Black was sure he came early, just as he figured he would. Eventually, Cheren was going to understand that Black was never going to be on time. It was just a pain to try to be there at an exact time, especially when people would stand there and wait on him. It's not like he was going to miss out on something for being late. Not to mention, he was the party, so it would be them that would miss out, not him. Black would just nonchalantly look for someone to battle and inevitably beat.
"Yoo, Cheren~" Black waved excitedly in the air. He hadn't seen his friend in a long time, and though it had been a while back ago. Black still wasn't really sure how he was going to treat Cheren. The whole White thing still sort of bothered him, and who could blame him? Black had had a huge crush on her for over a year now. He was just going to have to get over it. He had Soul now, and though they hadn't completely confessed their feelings for one another, he still cared deeply for her. Black shoved his hands in his pockets and gave a carefree grin.
He was ready as ever for this long overdue fight, but had he prepared? No way. This was his edge, Black was able to plan and attack on the fly. This was what kept Cheren thinking and made Black a tough opponent for his childhood friend. He was a complete mystery to Cheren and Black wasn't about to change up his strategy now. Black strolled up to him and smiled a wide grin. "Hope you didn't mind, I just took my time. I knew you wouldn't mind." He gave a peace sign with his fingers and strolled over to a good distance away from Cheren. "How do you wanna do this Cher, 3 on 3 okay with you?"
Black knew exactly the three he was going to put out. It was the three that always has his back no matter what, the ones he could count on no matter the situation Black put them in. |
