Ahead of him, there was a brief flash of purple darting in and out of the snow as Vee played with the mess allowed to him. It was rare enough that he'd been up with Red on the mountain at all, the last time had been months ago... But even then, Red remembered a flash of yellow dancing alongside Vee. That had been before the rebels. In a way, he should have felt bad for attempting the climb he was today wtihout White, but the helplessness had continued to gnaw at his mind endlessly. Red had never been a person of inaction, he'd always preferred to race head first into any given situation.. Not just trail along behind it. Lately, that had been all he'd been able to do.
Be patient.
Green had said it, Yellow had said it, Blue had said it, even White had told him that it would take time. Every day he wasted waiting for his hands to flex and stretch was another day that Pika and the others were in desperate danger and another day that Red would have to fight to get them back. Even now, months later, he could feel the throbbing in his hands getting worse with every step he took up the slippery mountain side. Evidently, cold was worse for broken bones than anything else.
Ice slipped under his foot, and Red stumbled forward with a soft yelp as Vee darted back to pressed against his legs, blinking up at him with the kind of worry that only a Pokemon seemed to be able to have. Vee had been through so much with him, just as the others had.. But in a way, Red was more than a little glad Vee hadn't been the one taken. He'd already suffered at the hands of a power-hungry people... "I'm okay, Vee! Maybe we should've invited White after all! At least I'd have someone to talk to!" That and being near his stunning girlfriend never failed to make Red smile. Since his attack, she'd been near constantly by his side. She'd done everything she possibly could to make the helpless feeling easier on himself. The whole time she hadn't really thought about herself, just him. Constantly him. She was selfless and wonderful and beautiful and..
A puff of foggy air floated past Red's dark eyes as he used the back of his wrist to push his hat up slightly. Even in the cold, he could feel the sweat in his hair and on the back of his neck from the climb. "Want to find the springs for me, Vee? I'm alright." He laughed, tucking his still injured hands back inside his jacket for warmth as the Espeon nodded once before bounding back into the snow.

DOWN WHERE THE CITY MEETS THE SEA, I SIT AND DAYLIGHT SPEAKS TO ME; SHE CARRIES ME AWAY, YEAH. I'LL FIND MY WAY, WOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH THE LITTLE PIECE OF YOU THAT'S LEFT IN ME. AND I WOULD TAKE AWAY YOUR BREATH,
She wasn't supposed to be on the mountain. She had heard Red say he wanted to do it alone, knew it was all part of the fact that he had to feel independant. Wanted some time with Vee, but at the same she couldn't watch him go alone. She couldn't be sure he would be okay, and that wasn't her doubting him, that was her doubting the harsh conditions that Mt Silver just resonated. She watched from many feet down the track, watched him stumble and frowned to herself as she hurried forward, followed closely by the pokemon she had used to protect herself.
Her whole team were around her, making sure that no other pokemon would attack her from around. There was some strong, fully evolved wanderers the higher you got, the further in. It was with nerves for both herself and for Red that her brow furrowed and she looked up at her capped boyfriend. When he had been attacked, they'd not been together. They were friends, her feelings remaining quiet behind her need to stay close to him until two of the shadow triad, boys she had met before and known well - one of them dating someone else she'd know- had attacked him. Had broken his hands and left him in a state of unrest. After that day, she could not keep her feelings to herself. Fear and adrenaline had made her confess, forced her to draw close to him and help him in every way she could.
When he had needed her, she was his hands. She cooked, cleaned, helped him dress. She never had any shame, never felt any inclination of "he is using me" because all she wanted was to help. To be close to him and make everything better. His hands were healing more and more - not completely, but the movement he was able to show had been more than what her worst of nightmares had proved, so she was more optimistic than ever but the idea of him alone on the mountain - okay, he had Vee but come on made her nervous, and so she had followed him as quietly as she could, and then he had slipped and she knew it had been a good idea.
Rushing up so that she was finally close enough to him, she reached out a hand and touched his shoulders. "And here I was hoping you'd make a better guide than that, having to have Vee find the springs for you." The chatter of her teeth made clear how very little she was used to the cold. The girl had paraded around in shorts and a vest for the majority of her life, so the snowy mountaintop was certainly different for her. She shivered and tugged her jacket around her tighter, offering him a small smile. "I'd like to find them too actually.. I think my toes might fall off otherwise."

Knowing she was eager to help made it easier for the young Champion to rely on her for everything. To know she wouldn't run like Blue had seemed to want to. It seemed so ironic that the last time he'd been up on the mountain, it had been Blue's freezing body he'd carried back down. They'd been best friends then.. Maybe it had been wrong to take things that little bit further, she and White had been friends. Had he ruined that?
A crunch in the snow behind him stiffened his muscles warily, though he made no sign he'd heard the footstep. There was a subtle change now, no longer slogging through the snow, but delibrately placing his feet so that he could dive to the ground if he needed to. Red eyes darted about the snow, catching sight of Vee, who had looked back at him at the same time. Whether he'd heard the footstep or just noticed his trainer's change in stance was uncertain, but he seemed to continue to bound ahead.
"Vee." At the sound of his name, the Espeon was at Red's side in a heartbeat, growling quietly before it trailed off into a confused little purr right as Red turned and grinned with recognition. "White!" He laughed happily, Vee bounding around her legs before leaning up to rest snowy paws against her leg, purring eagerly even as Red laughed his usual optimistic chuckle and grinned at his girlfriend. White! He'd been thinking about her certainly, but he'd never thought she'd show up. If thinking about her was all it took, maybe he should have thought about her without any clothes.. Or kissing him... "I was trying to distract him! I know where they are!" He protested, laughing as he leaned in to press his lips against hers in a brief, exuberant kiss.
It was only as he did so that he noticed the chattering of her teeth, and a softer smile replaced the usual one as he nodded quickly. "Of course!" Then he cast a worried look at her outfit and shrugged his arms out of his own jacket - ignoring the sting in his hands as he forced his fingers to curl around the edges and toss it around her shoulders. Cold air rushed in instantly, but rather than show the shiver that instantly shuddered through his frame, Red simply grinned. "It looks way better on you! C'mon! The springs are this way, you know I came here a lot after the last time. It's not a warm place I thought you knew that and you should reallyreally have a Pokemon out. I worry about you, you know." He babbled on, stepping through the snow and tucking his throbbing hands back into his body to try and warm them as he grinned again.
"I'm glad you're here. I was bored."
