Lydia met Minnie in Viridian forest, the girl was very young and had gotten herself hopelessly lost in the big, dark forest. The little girl had all but given up on finding her way out before nightfall when Minnie came along and helped her back to Viridian city. After their first meeting Lydia would sneak into the forest to play with Minnie, and when she was finally able to start her journey the Pichu came along willingly. Minnie isn't as strong as Mac, but she helps Lydia position her Voltorb when she is planning an attack. Lydia is very rarely seen without Minnie tagging along.

MAC NAME: mac SPECIES: electrode GENDER: genderless EGG GROUP: mineral group MOVES: self-destruct electro ball swift charge beam rollout spark tackle sonicboom THE POKEMON: Mac was Lydia's first voltorb, and the only one that she became very attached to. Their first encounter was at the power plant in Kanto where the voltorb exploded and knocked Minnie out. Lydia had never seen a Pokemon self-destruct before and rushed both little Pokemon to the Pokecenter immediately. When she found out that this was normal behavior for voltorb she became fascinated with the species and Mac's presence is solely to blame for her interest in electronics as well as explosives. Mac's evolution was very recent, its destructive ability is much greater than when it was a voltorb and it is still learning to control its power.
