He likes to tell people that the two were destined from birth to be the saviors of the universe, and used telepathy to find each other... But in truth, Gideon just went out to the desert to find the Elgyem. U-Fo, while not particularly threatening, is just always... there. A bit ominous or eerie, if you will. This tends to unnerve people. It's probably also important to note that the name of it is NOT pronounced each as separate letters (U.F.O) but rather is pronounced something along the lines of 'Yufo.' Gideon is very particular about this, and will not hesitate to correct someone if they get it wrong.

Nyx NAME: Nyx SPECIES: drifblim GENDER: female EGG GROUP: amorphous MOVES: minimize gust payback hex ominous wind fly destiny bond THE POKEMON: Sneaking out of the house seems like a very teenage thing to do. you know, rebelling from parents, yada yada... Except Gideon wasn't going out to party, he was going to a potentially dangerous place. In the middle of the night. Nyx was a Pokemon that he first came upon in the Giant Chasm, near his home. Initially rather frightened by Gideon, the Driftblim eventually opened up, revealing to be, well... full of hot air. Figuratively and literally. Since the two apparently share similar views, they find it quite easy to get along. Even if Nyx can also end up being a clueless airhead sometimes.
