Memory. What actually consisted of a memory? Was it the feel of a place? Was it the remembering exactly what happened? Was it what the ground felt like? Lola blinked, staring down the alley she had played all down, to avoid her parents. She could hear the screams of little children as they ran around, the girls trying to play hoppipscotch and the boys just throwing chalk at the girls until they chased them around. Lola smiled and turned away, just an empty alley full of nothing but the whispers of rats' whiskers. Her eyes looked up at the former Silph Co. building and she turned in the opposite direction, walking for a long time, not really paying attention to where she was going. the entire city reminded her of her father. Everywhere she went in Kanto, she was remembered as 'his' daughter. She didn't even know if "he" was still alive. She hadn't heard from her parents in years. Maybe she should go...? No, that was ridiculous. Why would she go back there?
Lost in thought, when she finally looked up, she was in a grassy field with small pokemon wandering around. She'd been so engrossed on her job recently, that she'd almost completely neglected her pokemon, besides the occasional stroll with Bradley. Looking around and not seeing anyone coming, she stretched out and pulled the poke-balls from her belt. She reached into her bag, pulling out some notebooks and some crayons, which she laid out. She carefully laid them on the ground one by one and then tugged at her khaki dress. She adjusted her underwear and her bra, folding her dress on the ground next to the balls. She climbed into the little lake she'd spotted and gave a long sigh, laying there for a moment. She dipped below the surface and then reached for her pokeballs, clicking each of them so that her pokemon would pop out. She wasn't normally this meticulous, but when it came to her possessions, she got a bit intense about them, making sure she knew where everything was at the same time.
Smoochie and Maggie appeared first, looking over at Lola in the water. She smiled at the Smoochum and Magby and they grinned, running toward her. Smoochies jumped in, splashing her and she smiled, petting the little girl. Maggie looked on sadly until Lola pointed out the notebook. The Magby's eyes lit up and she immediately sprawled out and began doodling on the paper. Sofia was next to pop out, immediately hopping into the water and flapping around, like the adorable Spheal she was. She rolled around in the water, which Lola knew would entertain the curious little pokemon for hours. When Leslie and Bradley appeared, they began sparring with each other playfully, the Glalie firing ice attacks at the Flareon. They busied themselves near the water, but not close enough to fall in. Lola looked up at her Camerupt who was glaring down at her, the huge pokemon she was. "Could you keep guard for me, Elizabeth?" The pokemon's eyes lit up and she blew steam out her nose, knocking Lola's hair back.
Lola grinned. "I'll take that as a yes." Elizabeth stepped away from the water and stood with her back to Lola, eyes carefully scanning the area, ready for any sort of attack. [/blockquote]

It had been about six years since Sam started traveling. Six long years of training and preparation. And so far, he felt like it hadn’t been enough to prepare him for battle against a villainous team. Sure, he knew he couldn’t do this alone by a long shot, but it still felt like he could do nothing to play a part in taking this new team down. After six years, he had only obtained two other Pokemon; a Pineco and a Larvesta. And while they had grown strong since being taken under the trainer’s wing, it just wasn’t enough. He needed more Pokemon, he needed to truly cover his weaknesses. How was it that he had even gotten away with only capturing one Pokemon, and obtaining two anyway? Either way, if he didn’t obtain more Pokemon, especially to cover his weak points, then his attempts at challenging the Gyms would not go smoothly by any means.
The trainer’s hunt for Pokemon would have to wait. Today, Sam Todd was on one of his rare visits to Saffron City, his home town. After exiting the train station, Sam let Ripper out of his Pokeball. The armored bug Pokemon stretched out, taking in the outside world for the first time in hours. Then the two of them walked down the streets of the city. They had passed the market, where Sam had often visited while running errands for the orphanage. Speaking of which, Sam and Ripper watched several kids playing at the playground, where one of the staff members was watching.
Eventually, the two of them made it to the lake. Normally, they’d simply ignore the lake. A female trainer and her Pokemon were there. What interested the brown-haired trainer was the Glaile and the Flareon sparring, the Camerupt standing guard, and the two baby Pokemon, a Smoochum and a Magby playing around. Another glance at the woman caused Sam to vaguely recognize her. However, years of keeping to himself prevented him from immediately putting his finger on the woman’s name.

If anyone knew not to mess with Elizabeth, it was Lola's Flareon, her loyal Bradley, who still had scars in places that he didn't think were possible. Lola had avoided, for a while now, letting Elizabeth spar with anyone, just because of the sheer size of the pokemon in comparison with her party, along with her inability to hold back once she got started. Lola relaxed in the water and looked up at Elizabeth, just in time to see the behemoth slamming her foot down. She jerked up and focused in on her. "Elizabeth." Her voice was deeper, suddenly serious. The Camerupt didn't turn around. "Elizabeth. " Her voice became a warning. The Camerupt slowly turned around, shuffling her foot out of view. Lola simply stared at her pokemon. " I know you didn't do what I told you not to do. " She said simply, eyes narrowing. Elizabeth sheepishly looked at her trainer, avoiding eye contact. Lola continued to stare at her Camerupt until she sheepishly extended her right foot out, showing a smear of pink across the bottom of it. Lola jerked her eyes up and she pulled herself quickly out of the water. " Elizabeth, we've talked about this. " The desperation in her voice was easy to spot. " You can't crush pokemon whenever you want. " She gently pet Elizabeth's side, running her hand over the tough red skin. " They have lives to live too, no matter how much their presence annoys you, alright?" At least the Camerupt had the gall to look ashamed. She inched forward and Lola gave her other leg a hug, gently patting her on the side. Elizabeth held her right foot out and Lola began calmly cleaning the remains of the tiny pokemon off, probably a Jigglypuff. A cynical side of her asked if anyone really even cared about Jigglypuff, but she knew that was just the Rebel inside of her, not caring about anything around her. After cleaning off the bottom of Elizabeth's foot, she looked up when she heard Elizabeth give a rough snort. Her eyes connected with a boy and his Scizor, making her frown slightly. She stood up and put her hands on her bare hips, looking at him. His eyes seemed to be focused on Leslie and Bradley sparring and she looked over too, wondering if one of her pokemon had did some sort of miraculous move. No, just the usual ones. She turned back around and looked at the boy closer, narrowing her eyes. Oh! He was one of the kids who's family had been victimized by the Rockets, that's where she knew him from! She hadn't seen him in years, but it looked like the road hadn't been very kind to him. Not that he was ugly, or anything. He just looked.....old. Even though she was in her bra and underwear, she didn't let it stop her. From what she could remember, he was a few years younger than her. In the business part of her brain, she put him in the category of "not on my radar" and settled that. Picking up her dress and folding it over her arm, she walked toward him, Elizabeth at her side. Bradley and Leslie paused before continuing their sparring, while her other three pokemon remained oblivious. She approached him, not quite sure she remembered his name until she got close. Leaning against Elizabeth, she smiled and extended a hand. " Hey there, I'm not sure if you remember me, but I'm Lo- Naomi Brooks. It's a pleasure to meet you again." She smiled cordially, watching for his reaction. [/blockquote]

For just a moment, Sam looked back towards the trainer, clad only in her underwear. His gaze was not of interest, but of an attempt to pull up her name. He had met the girl about ten or so years ago, after his mother was burnt to a crisp. It was the girl's father that was there, helping him out in the situation. The man himself was a prominent ranger.
"Brooks!", he thought to himself. But he still couldn't remember her first name. He hadn't really spoken to the girl. She did try to comfort him at the time. Whether he actually responded to her attempts or ignored her during his fits of sobbing went unremembered to the brown-haired trainer. Either way, it seemed like a sense of shame didn't really come to the girl, at least from what he could tell.
Sam and Ripper watched in horror as the Camerupt smashed a Jigglypuff to death under its foot. Immediately, the armored insect cocked a closed pincer back, getting ready to charge the massive beast. However, Sam held an arm out in front of his first partner. "Sci-zor!!", cried out the Pincer Pokemon angrily. Sam looked at his partner with an apologetic, yet stern look. Even though he'd love for Ripper to smash through that monstrous thing with a well-aimed Superpower, he knew that Camerupt would probably melt down Ripper easily.
Sam heard as the girl reprimanded the Camerupt for squashing the pink Pokemon. Soon after, the girl spotted Sam and Ripper from above. She then took her dress and walked over to the trainer, still in her underwear. "Hey there, I'm not sure if you remember me, but I'm Lo- Naomi Brooks. It's a pleasure to meet you again.", she told him. "Lola, that's it. . .", thought the tired boy. Sad thing was, he looked like utter shit right now. Pale as hell, hadn't eaten in two days, and had barely gotten sleep due to the nightmares. What a way to return to his hometown after about two years.
"Hey Naomi, its been a while. . .", he told her tiredly. "I'm Sam Todd, and I do remember you. Your family helped me after the incident. . .", he told her. Meanwhile, Ripper kept glaring at the Camerupt, watching for its next move. Next time it killed a Pokemon, it would send a Superpower right into its face, whether his trainer consented to it or not.

Lola frowned a little bit as she was reminded back to her old name. Well, it wasn't technically her old name. Just another one she didn't use - ever. She was once again pushed back into those pesky memories of her's again. Lieutenant Brooks and his strict regime of the house and how he always seemed to be bringing his work home with him. Night spent curled up on the couch while her father yelled in his study, just a wall separating them, about what to do to the enemy. How to catch them, what to do to them. In her memory, she pulled her knees up to her chest and turned the volume on the television higher up, immersing herself in reality television. She couldn't exactly what show had been on at that exact memory but it had happened so many times that she had a hard time separating the instances from each other.
Her tiny pokemon were suddenly bouncing up behind her, one dripping with water and the other toasty warm. They each latched onto her legs and then closed their eyes, squealing happily. Maggie looked from around Lola's bare calf and looked worriedly up at the Scizor. He seemed to be focused on Elizabeth, much to the two babies' happiness. They wriggled up Lola's leg, getting as far as her knees before she pushed the Smoochum and Magby off. "Not now, okay?" She paused and gave Sam an apologetic smile and then crouched down, kissing each of the pokemon on the head. "Why don't you two go read those Pokebooks?" She asked, smiling at them. Happy with the idea, they skipped over to her bag, scattering various items from her bag as they struggled to get the childish books out of her bag. She shook her head and then stood back up, facing Sam. "Sorry about that. Yes, I remember you pretty well." She smiled sympathetically, struggling for something to say that didn't just come off as "I'm sorry".
She glanced over at the Scizor. "Oh, yeah, I'm sorry about Elizabeth." She looked embarrassed as she shifted from one foot to the other, watching the Scizor. "She's....She's very much a battler. She likes to destroy her opponents. Comes in handy for my job." She grinned widely and then shook her head, reaching a hand up to gently stroke the shoulder of her enormous Camerupt. The eruption pokemon gave a loud snort, making direct eye contact with the Scizor. If she needed to, she would smash him to. She would have taken a challenging step forward if it hadn't been for the calming Lola, who had her hand braced on Elizabeth's side. "I could destroy you." Elizabeth snuffed at the Scizor and Lola looked over at her, frowning. "What did you say this time, you troublemaker?" She asked. Elizabeth didn't bother to pretend to look ashamed. She looked down into Lola's eyes and then re-focused on the Scizor. If needed, she could destroy him. She knew she could.
