”Hello?
...
I've just arrived.
...
No, but I hadn't anticipated difficulties as of yet.
...
Possibly; that depends on them.
…
Their hometown.
…
Understood. I'll see you soon.”
Flipping his Pokenav closed and taking a short hop off of Metagross, Steven Stone took a moment to survey his surroundings. In truth, he had never visited the town of Littleroot until this day; such a quiet, peaceful place had never given him reason to visit. He supposed there was a certain melancholy in the fact that he only seemed to frequent civilization if some great force threatened to throw the world into turmoil. He considered this his duty, however, and all of the time he spent sifting through dirt and grime for hidden treasures could likely be considered a vacation of sorts. Breathing in the calm breeze that came with the tranquility of this place, he turned once more to Metagross, a small smile gracing his visage as he gently placed a hand onto the flat top of his oldest friend. ”Thanks, take a long rest.” Returning Metagross to a pokeball retrieved from his waist, the former champion turned once more to his destination, his face as calm and unperturbed as usual, yet at the same time his eyes radiating a confidence in himself that would be obvious to any fellow trainer.
In fact, he was here on a search for two trainers that he would most certainly consider to be his peers, in spite of their difference in age. Although he did not necessarily know them altogether very personally, he had heard much of the boy named Ruby from his good friend Wallace, and similar praise for the young Sapphire came from Winona, another reputable source when it came to judging character. Such references were hardly necessary, however. Although Steven had not been active since the Kyogre-Groudon affair, he distinctly remembered how heroic the actions of both of these young trainers had been. In all honesty, in spite of hard work put in by both himself and his former underlings, these two teens had deserved more credit than any. Were it not for their actions, none of the work put in by any other individual could have succeeded in quelling the clash between the two titans.
Now, it appeared as if the fate of all regions was being threatened both by forces new and old. Even before he had been informed of the state of things, he could tell by the urgency in his father's voice that this was a situation requiring his attention. In spite of the considerable resources Mr. Stone of the Devon Corporation had at his disposal, one couldn't simply toss money at a situation and expect to gain intimate knowledge of its details. In short, although his father had outlined his basic knowledge of the actions of this 'Rebel Force' in their conversation, they decided that the best course of action would be for Steven to do some intelligence work before leaping into the fray with any sort of plan. The trainer could not think of a better starting point than the two Pokedex holders that originated from Littleroot Town. He was not certain about their current whereabouts; it was altogether quite likely that they would be elsewhere. However, Steven supposed that even if they were not present, he could ask those close to them if they had any idea of where he might find them. The esteemed Professor Birch, father of Sapphire, lived and worked in this town, and Steven knew Ruby's family lived here, as well. If need be, Gym Leader Norman was relatively close by, in Petalburg City. From what Steven understood of the man, Norman would be able to give some insight into his son's movements, even if he had not been explicitly informed of them.
Thinking back to the moment he had heard from his father, Steven recalled his original thoughts in regards to the idea that he should return to work once more for the good of the people. His first thought had been a rather selfish one, in that he would rather continue searching for interesting stones in the region of Unova than return to the front lines of a seemingly never-ending battle against evil forces. He had even gone so far as to consider rejecting the idea on the grounds that he was no longer champion, and as such held no obligation to those in the region of Hoenn, nor any other region for that matter. This was, however, rather unfair to Wallace. After all, hadn't he been the one to pass the champion's cloak on to his friend in the first place? Although Wallace had technically defeated him, it had been his choice to remain a gym leader, rather than serve as Hoenn's champion. Only at Steven's own request had Wallace donned the mantle of top trainer, and as such Steven couldn't simply pass off all responsibilities to him. Steven understood completely the stress that came with the aforementioned position, and as such he couldn't in good conscience leave his friend without someone to turn to in times such as these. Besides, Steven had spent the last few years following his own desire to obtain more and more interesting stones. Whereas Wallace had been burdened with continual responsibility, he himself had been catering solely to his own whims since he and the Elite Four had aided in putting a stop to both Team Aqua and Team Magma. As such, he would take it upon himself to serve the people once more, as a former champion of Hoenn, if nothing else.
Strolling calmly from the outskirts of the small town, a few scattered buildings came into view, and he supposed he was about to truly enter the town of Littleroot. Given the small size of the place, he did not expect it would take long for him to determine if the two were present or not. Crossing the threshold into town, he took a moment to consider where he should first look. Deciding that the lab of the previously mentioned professor would be an excellent place to begin, he began walking in the general direction of said lab, with the intention of stopping in and checking for the two trainers there.
