Azumi murmured to Sirena as the Dewgong dissapeared back under the salty surface of the ocean. Watching her, Azumi couldn't help but smile as she continued along the beach. The sand was so pleasant between her toes, and the smell of the sea... Even the way the wind snatched at her hair didn't bother her today. One hand reached up to push her hair out of her face, the other rummaging around in her bag for a clip. Her hand fell on the cross-shaped clips and she tugged them out to secure the wispy strands that had falled from her pony-tail. After a moment of walking, she stopped, dropping bag and shoes to the ground and smiling as Rikki instantly settled with them.
Leaving the Raichu where she was, Azumi stepped towards the gently lapping waves. It was almost an acute relief to feel the water rush over her feet and against her legs as she held the skirt of her blue dress above the level of splashes. She'd grown up by the ocean, grown up with the smell of salt in her hair and water constantly around her. The hiss of the waves, and whisper of the wind. Sometimes how she ever left... While this wasn't her home town, it reminded her so accutely of it that Azumi was struck with a pang of home-sickness. She missed everything about home, even her strict parents. They missed her too, and she knew that. Every phone call practically echoed with the fact, though Azumi danced around it like any good teenager.
"Don't you want to come play, Rikki?" Azumi asked over her shoulder, but the electric mouse shook her head and settled down in the sun. Sirena was more than eager to indulge her trainer though, swimming closer to shore and popping up so that her head showed out of the water. "Don't you dare!" Azumi laughed, taking a step back out of the shallows, a laugh that quickly became a sound that was halfway between a laugh and a squeal of shock as her Pokemon used her powerful tail to send a small wave of water flying at her trainer. For all that Azumi tried to move out of the way, she quickly found herself drenched.
Coughing and spluttering, Azumi pushed her now wet hair away from her eyes. Home sickness was forgotten, as was the possibility of anyone watching her as Azumi let all her masks fade away in the face of playing in the ocean. It had always seemed to make her calmer and now she laughed as she dodged another wave from her Pokemon. "Cheat!" She called and Sirena made her own manner of laughter right back, diving under the water to miss the small splash directed at her from her trainer.
It was possibly the one time when Azumi was natural, simply herself without the trappings of being a coordinator, or being polite added on to the base.

THEY SAY LOVE AIN'T FAIR BUT I'M DOING FINE He didn’t know how long he had been asleep.
Just that, when he woke up, he came eye-to-eye with two azure beady eyes looking down at him, a look of urgency on her mostly unchanging face, a face that only he could read.
And before he knew it, his entire backside became drenched with water.
He yelped. She laughed. I tried to warn you! The look on the snorunt’s face seemed to tease, taking delight in the shocked expression on his face that had been so peaceful looking moments ago. Somehow, and not very surprisingly, Quil had fallen asleep on the sandy shore, having not realized that the tide had come in. He sat up quickly then, sighing. He had just been in the middle of a good dream, of winning the double Lilycove contest (along with a faceless partner) that was supposed to take place in the next few days – and reality had hit him with a wave that left him soaking wet (half, anyway). To add to it, his own pokemon was literally rolling around laughing in the sand with her unique giggles.
“You think this is funny, huh?” He asked her, eyes narrowed. Of course, he wasn’t really being cross with her, but he wasn’t going to stand by and have her laugh at him either, troublemaker that she was. Grabbing a handful of the wet sand, he chucked it towards her, only to have her bounce away and thus nearly miss her head. Quil dug up more sand, scooping by the handful, and continued hurling the blobbed mass towards her, each time missing with her jumping backward, dodging left and right.
He smirked, recognizing her pattern. “Gotcha!” A large chunk aimed straight for her as she went left, but as he was hoping, a protective green force field formed around her, causing the wet mess to slide down her self-made shield. “Nice! Your instincts are getting way better!” Quil grinned, reaching to pat her on the head – but even then found her not letting her guard down. “I’ll go wash off my hands…” His tone was almost child-like as he began making his way towards the sea, her following warily on his toes. But in the distance, the sounds of peeling laughter caught both of their interest.
Some ways off, there was a trainer and her dewgong playing together, splashing and giggling, making the little snorunt feel a twitch of jealousy – as much as she loved the ocean, she couldn’t swim on her own. It was truly something to envy. “Looks like they’re having fun,” Quil remarked thoughtfully, letting the waves lap over his hands as he watched the duo playing in the water. The way the two were having fun, splashing around, the girl being so carefree about the dress she was wearing getting wet – there was something so captivating about it all that he couldn’t help but watch, his green eyes transfixed on their movements in the water. It was a scene where everything else became a blur. Like living in the moment.
A warm feeling fluttered in his chest.
After a moment, he noticed the lone raichu, which he assumed belonged to the girl, basking in the sunlight away from the waves. Funnily enough, he only knew one other person that had a raichu. And if he were to assume coincidence, he would have sworn that the raichu was Rikki, who belonged to his coordinator friend Azumi, who had pink hair – He squinted.
…Wait… Huh. She has pink hair too.
But… was it really her?
Without saying anything, he began walking – and then running – across the shore towards the young woman, Nocilla hurriedly following, the expression on her face clear that she was unhappy about him nearly forgetting her.
If it wasn’t her, well, he’d have to be shamed and apologize profusely; after all, what were the chances she and him end up in the same town of all places in Hoenn? But if he knew anything, anything at all, life was all about taking risks.
“Azumi? Azumi!” He called out to the young woman clad in the blue dress. Right then, her back was turned, so he couldn’t see her face – but he had his fingers crossed. If Azumi was around, maybe Ruby and perhaps his cave— close friend Sapphire was with her too, and well, seeing two of his coordinator friends would indeed be a day made.

Obviously, the water-dwelling Pokemon had a big advantage over her trainer, but that didn't really matter to either of them. They were just playing. She might have been able to keep only slightly drenched, had someone not called her name. Hearing her name, Azumi spun to face the direction it had come from, and Sirena took that moment to knock her feet out from under her. After a second of furious flailing, Azumi was back on her feet and glaring half-heartedly at her Pokemon. "You cheat." She teased, resting her hand against the white Pokemon's head and smiling happily.
"Oh, Quil." Reminded that someone had been calling her, Azumi's cheeks abruptly went a deep shade of pink. She hadn't been ready to deal with a person! From what she'd seen, the beach had been empty. Now... She knew Quil, and she knew that the last time she had seen her friend had been... Right, she'd been wearing the flirty persona, and before that, probably the 'cool' coordinator one. As much as she scrambled to find that confidence lurking with her 'masks', Azumi couldn't seem to bring herself to step neatly into it. Perhaps because she was absolutely soaked to the skin, her hair was dripping and she looked an absolute mess. So she merely blushed a deeper shade of pink and concentrated on wringing the water out of the deep blue skirt of her dress. "Um... Hi, you..." She paused, clearing her throat and forced herself to look up at him, trying to hide the fact she was blushing terribly and glanced past him to the Snorunt. She looked a little jealous, actually and Azumi crouched in the warm water.
"Hey there, sweetie." She cooed gently, smiling in her most sweet way as she beckoned the little Pokemon forward. "Would you like to come play? Don't worry, I'll keep you safe." She murmured, holding out her hand to the little Snorunt. Sirena popped up in the water again, urging the little Pokemon to come play with them, before promptly splashing Quil with her tail and swimming closer to him. He'd managed to knock her Trainer off her balance, and Sirena was enjoying her time with Azumi just being herself. Maybe if Quil joined them, then Azumi wouldn't try to hide behind her masks again.
The waves continued to lap against Azumi's legs, but she paid them no attention, as she beckoned again to the ice-type. If she just focused on the Pokemon, she wouldn't be so embarassed that Quil had caught her without her normal guises of charm and charisma. She felt at a complete loss now, floundering, so she turned to a Pokemon to distract herself from the burning in her cheeks. "I... I didn't know anyone would be out here." She mumbled after a moment, glancing up at Quil with a small, sweet smile.

Seeing Azumi’s dewgong, quite the trickster it was, sweep her off her feet – in the most literal way possible – and then witness his friend flailing like a magikarp (of course, he’d never tell her what kind of comparisons he was making in his head) was a scene far too hilarious for him not to. And for some reason it was funny, just because it was Azumi of all people. A girl he had, to his memory, always seen being so proper, maybe a bit strict in all of her competitiveness – so to see her like this, completely soaked and flailing in the water was a complete one-eighty than what he was used to. He smiled and raised a hand in acknowledgement as she said his name, watching her curiously as she wrung the hem of her dress, waiting until she looked up to see him. And then when she met his eyes, he was careful not to burst into laughter this time. She looked so flushed, maybe even a little tomato faced and all, and it was hard trying not to laugh. She seemed so embarrassed, though! He bit his tongue to keep himself from snorting at her, instead chuckling a little and then choosing to speak when he had calmed down. “Hey there! I didn’t expect…” Then she bent down, and he trailed off as he went from looking at her eyes to the top of her head. Nocilla blinked at the young woman as she spoke to her. Naturally, she hid shyly behind her trainer’s leg as she listened to Azumi’s offer, her eyes flickering from the girl’s outstretched hand to the dewgong surfacing above the ocean waters. Azumi seemed sweet, and she was a friend of Quil’s, and it looked fun – delightfully accepting, she was going to trust her. Glancing up at Quil for a moment, she snickered quietly when a wave of water splashed him full-on. Oh, Sirena was going to pay for that! She thought happily, knowing that every time they had gone to play in the ocean, splashing was turned into some sort of a competition. She had only watched, but this time would be different. Her steps were slow, but soon enough she had swallowed down that last bit of reluctance and was scampering merrily towards the pinkette, holding out her little arms for Azumi to take. And Quil of course, now completely soaked, took Sirena’s actions as an invitation for war. Before he was going to make a swooping attack at her, he looked back at his coordinator friend, shrugging one shoulder and shaking the water out of his unruly hair. “Me either! Coincidence, huh? But it’s good to see you.” He told her, smiling. Then he looked upwards, a thoughtful expression on his face, “Last time I saw you, I think Ruby was asking you out on a date.” He chuckled again before looking back at her, “How was that, by the way?”After a moment, he folded his arms over his chest, looking decisive. “Well, now that we’re here…” Playfully, he tapped a finger to his chin, “might as well join in on the fight.” And with that he grinned again, before promptly pulling off his shirt over his head and tossing it aside carelessly on the sand in his haste. Running towards Sirena, he made a large swooping movement with his arms and then launched his own splash attack towards her. How could one respect her without that aura of confidence and smiles and.. Everything else that the exhausting routine needed of her. To smile and flirt and laugh and keep her shoulders back, and tone polite, never straying from protocol. It had been drummed into her from a very young age, and now she was faced with the inability to find that in herself. Looking at the Pokemon was a way to avoid looking at Quil, and thus embarrassing herself further when she didn't really need to.
As the the little Pokemon considered her options, Azumi self-conciously smoothed her hand over her skirt again, then absently tugging on the wet strands of her hair. Why did she have to look such a mess infront of Quil of all people? It was embarrassing and possibly the worst situation she could imagine. Perhaps it was the beach, and the familliarity of the salty air that was making her behave so. It couldn't be her fault, or Quil's. Finally, the ice-type seemed to decide she was trustworthy, and in answer to her movements forward Azumi's smile brightened. It was a wonderful, sweet feeling to know that even though she wasn't her trainer, Nocilla still trusted her enough to come into the water with her. "That's it, I promise I'll keep really tight hold of you." She crooned gently at her, taking the little arms lightly in her own hands and drawing her closer to her so she wouldn't be alone in the water.
Quil's act of pausing to talk to her trainer was, in Sirena's mind, an act of silliness. By turning away, she was able to use her tail to flick a wave of water at both trainers - with Azumi turning so Nocilla didn't get most of the wave on her - and then diving under the salty surface again. If it was a declaration of war, Sirena was fairly sure that she held all the cards. After all, the water was her domain, not Quil's.
Azumi's cheeks coloured brightly at the mention of Ruby, the smallest frown starting up on her features as she focused on holding Nocilla in the water without frightening her or making her uneasy. "Um... That is... It.. didn't happen." She mumbled after a moment, trying not to look as upset as she'd felt constantly about it. She was still struggling to understand what she'd done wrong, she'd shown up where he told her, been on time.. "He stood me up.." Azumi mumbled after a long moment before smiling back at the ice-type pokemon and splashing her gently.
The next time she looked up, Quil was shirtless and her Dewgong was giving him a mildly surprised look as she dove back under the water to avoid being splashed. Hot colour spread from her neck to her cheeks, and Azumi hurriedly turned away as she watched Rikki bound up to the tossed shirt to drag it over to their other belongings where it would stay dry. "Are you really going to get into a war with a water-type Pokemon?" Azumi questioned quietly, another small smile twitching her lips as Sirena surfaced long enough to squirt water at him before sinking down so only her eyes were visable.
