Becoming a trusted friend of Janine's is... Well, harder than one would expect. While not shy, she generally doesn't spend a ton of time socializing. She DOES spend much of her time training. Her priorities and her loyalties... are a bit ambiguous. It's outwardly difficult to tell what she wants in a friend. The alignment of a person doesn't matter all that much to her. As long as they don't try to kill her, then their good. So, yes, this means that she could become friends with a Rebel.

Becoming an enemy of Janine is about s difficult as becoming a friend. While she IS easily offended, that isn't going to put someone in 'enemy' territory. Really, the things that will are more violent. Trying to kill her or her father, destroying her gym, stealing her Pokemon... And it's only very likely if it's repeated offenses. She tries her best to be able to look at what's good in a person.

She is a tough shell to crack. When it comes to romance, Janine can be incredibly stubborn. That itself oftentimes drives people away. She has a reputation to uphold, and her pride to protect, so she's often very reluctant. When Janine DOES have some sort of attraction to someone, it's honestly a lot like what a young boy would do. She teases them, and well... isn't exactly all sunshine and flowers. In her case, it's more of a way to cover it up. In these states, confrontation to her teasing can cause her to get incredibly flustered.

Such a good character, and so many possibilities. XD
First and foremost, you'll eventually be seeing Fel at her Gym sooner or later, but it's not so much him as his parents that I could see plotsies with for Janine, with Fel possibly acting as the link. I can seriously see professional respect between her and Jason given the skills he's acquired growing up in the Survival Zone, as well as those he acquired first as a trainer and then as a Ranger - he also ocassionally works with InterPol due to his varied skill sets, so I could see them meeting that way as well. Elinda would be slightly more difficult - she's one of those people who's always optimistic, but she and Janine really don't have anything in common beyond both being employed by the Pokemon Association. She did fight Koga in the past during her last regional tour as a trainer alongside Jason though, maybe something there?
On top of that, I'm glad to say that there are definately plot opportunities here for Slate finally, even if it did originate on a past site with a different Janine. She was one of the few Gym Leaders that he would actually speak to at length, and while I don't know how you want to play it here, there was definately mutual respect there - Slate appreciated the dedication she showed to her trade and as a trainer, and the other Janine respected him for the same reasons.

Go back to when they were picked to battle against one another in Goldenrod's Indigo Plateau and he won by default. He always wants to battle her again because of their history, but they end up arguing more than they end up battling. The pair of them enjoy one another's company, well, that's what I see anyways, but don't wanna let the other one know that. So I guess a friendly rivalry and he probably thinks she's cute. ;D

[/b] I really like the idea of Janine being one of the few people that someone talks to. That would make her feel a little appreciated, since so many people seem to be disappointed when coming to the gym only to learn that Koga's daughter has taken over. And a lot of pressure has been put on her to succeed, so it would be a nice change for her. Falkner&Janinegvhjbkkncgv vjh.jnkmjhbd ..... Yes. YESSSS. I would LOVE them to battle! And I can definitely see those two having sort of a love-hat relationship. What do ya say? [/ul] |

with how the manga portrays the team rocket quartet i can only assume koga and lieutenant surge were the closest things they had to bffs. while surge probably wasn't around janine as a baby, there's plenty of fill in the gaps over her childhood, right? i could imagine surge visiting and treating janine as his own daughter, or at the very least a close niece. since koga is such a great father and doesn't totally ditch his daughter after the events in kanto, i'm sure surge was more than willing to look after her during all those years. they might have an estranged super protective father and ready to prove herself daughter relationship. that and she'll be one of the very few people to soften him up.
